About this list. We researched each of the roughly 1,000 U.S. counties with 50,000+ residents in April 2026, using web search across company announcements, economic development agencies, utility filings and local news. Investment figures are what developers announced, not audited spending, and many are multi-year totals that include power infrastructure. Proposed projects get cancelled and statuses move on, so treat each row as a lead and confirm it with the county before relying on it. Small counties under 50,000 people aren't covered. In October 2026 we re-checked the largest projects and removed statewide pledges that had been pinned to a single county, along with projects filed under a same-named county in the wrong state.
Texas has the most data center projects in our tracker: 58 announced projects worth about $116.2B, 26 of them under construction. Georgia (43) and Virginia (41) are next. By announced dollars, New Mexico leads at $176.8B.
The largest announced project in our tracker is Project Jupiter Data Center Campus in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, at about $165B (STACK Infrastructure, BorderPlex Digital Assets, Oracle, OpenAI). Headline figures for the biggest campuses are multi-year totals and often include on-site power plants, so they run far above the cost of the buildings alone.
Our tracker lists 159 data center projects under construction across 39 states, plus 154 planned or approved and 170 proposed. It covers about 1,000 counties of 50,000+ people, so small rural projects in tiny counties can be missing.
Each county was researched in April 2026 using web search across company announcements, economic development agencies, utility filings and local news, then compiled into one list.
